HOW TO PLAY

GAZUMP
# of Players: 2 to 8
2 dice (numbered) 48 cards

Deal each player 6 cards and set the remaining aside as they will not be used.

Object of game is to be the first player to play his last card.

Begin: A player rolls two dice. The player rolling the dice has the option of playing two cards from his hand that match the dice rolled or the total of the cards.
Example if these two dice are rolled: 2 and 6
the player rolling may play from his hand both cards a 2 and 6
or he may play the total of the cards 8
If he has a 2, 6 and 8 in his hand he cannot play all three,
he may only play the two cards matching the dice (2 & 6) or the total (8).

When a player, plays a card he places it face up in front of him on the table.

If he cannot play, the person to his left gets to play only the total…in this example, the next player can only play the 8. If that person cannot play an 8, the next person to his left gets to play an 8. Continuing around the board, if no one can play, then that player’s turn is over and the next person gets to roll.

Here’s where it gets interesting: Once a player has played a card in front of him on the table, the play continues around the board; however, if a player cannot play the first person to his left that has played the card that matched the total of the rolled must pick his card up and put it back in his hand.
Example: the first player played a 2 and 6 so he has both cards on the table.
The next player rolled a 5 and 1. Remember he is the one who rolled so he can play two cards – 5 and 1 or the total 6. If he could not play, then going around the table to his left if a player cannot play a 6, then that first player who played a 2 and 6 must pick up his 6 and put it back in his hand.

Oh, but wait!…a “1” is a GAZUMP. It can be used as a 1 (for example if you roll 5 and 1, you can play both a 5 and 1 or you can play 6) but the best part is the 1 is a GAZUMP and it is used if you have a card that has to be picked up like in the example above where the player must pick up his 6, if he has a “1” GAZUMP in his hand he can play the GAZUMP instead of picking up the 6. You can only use that “1”/GAZUMP card once so it is important when you use it.

You will learn when you want to play the “1” as a “1” such as laying it down when you roll 5 and 1 or save it for a GAZUMP! 12’s and 11’s are harder to roll so sometimes if you have a 12 in your hand and got to play it early in the game you may want to hold your “1” in your hand because someone may roll a 12 and if they can’t play and you are the only one with a 12 on the board, you’d have to pick up it up unless you had a GAZUMP. A GAZUMP card is like gold… spend it wisely!
